God of War Ragnarok DLC: how to access Valhalla, the free additional content?

Announced just a few days ago during the Game Awards 2023 ceremony, the new God of War Ragnarok DLC has finally been released! If you already have the original game in your possession, know that this new content called Valhalla East completely free and you will therefore not need to pay a single extra euro to access it. But then, how to unlock this new DLC?

First of all, you will need to make sure you have downloaded the latest update for the game. Available since 6 p.m. today, it is thanks to the latter that you will be able to access Valhalla content. Note that if you had uninstalled the game, you will first have to reinstall it completely before you can add Valhalla content. So be patient and wait until all the files are downloaded. If you already have the full game installed on your console, check that the latest update has been downloaded by pressing the “Option” button on your controller once God of War Ragnarok is selected. You can then press “Check if updates are available” and let your console do the rest of the work.

Once the latest update is installed, launch the game to access the Main Menuthen select the option “Valhalla” which you will quickly find thanks to its golden highlighting. By pressing it, the game will offer you download the DLC. You will need no less than 17.21 GB of free space on your console. You will have understood, when the download is completed, All you have to do is return to this menu and press “Valhalla” again to launch the DLC. And if you think that you’re no longer up to it a year after the game’s release, don’t panic, we’ll explain everything to you a little further down.

Do you have to have finished the original game to enjoy God of War Ragnarok Valhalla?

Since God of War Ragnarok was released a little over a year ago, you might be a little worried about restarting the game and having forgotten how to play. Indeed, between the tough difficulty of the game (at least in the highest modes) and the RPG aspect of the equipment, it’s difficult to remember exactly how your character works after so much absence. In addition, some of you would surely like to play the DLC without even having completed the main adventure, being more attracted by the roguelite side of the latter.

Rest assured, it is absolutely not necessary to have completed the main adventure to enjoy Valhalla! Indeed, you will be able to access this content at any time during your adventure, and better yet, everything is done to help you come back to the game even if you have forgotten how to play. Roguelite requires, your equipment in Valhalla will not in fact be the same as in your adventure. Each game you play in this new mode will result in new armor and other equipment, so there’s no need to worry about remembering how you built your character.

Note also that the same observation can be made for the difficulty. The latter is also not linked to the one you have chosen in your adventure and you can change it regularly. If you really want to get back into the swing of things a bit before heading into Valhalla, note that you can always train at the Crow Tree in Niflheim.

Finally, be aware that even if it is not necessary to have completed the main adventure to enjoy Valhalla, the developers at Santa Monica Studios still advise you to have done so. Indeed, in addition to offering you an experience focused on combat, Valhalla will also bring you some additional storyline elements serving as a true epilogue to the story told in Ragnarok. If you want to make the most of this DLC, we advise you to do it after finishing the game the first time.
