F-Zero 99 Update 1.4.0 Adds Festival Events, New Team Battle Mode, and Emotes

F-Zero has just gone live with a new version 1.4.0 and full patch notes, bringing the latest content – ​​including festival events, a new team battle mode, and emotes.

As part of the festival events, players must collect Gem Sparks to obtain rewards. The new Team Battle mode features five teams of ten drivers, and teammates share a super meter. Finally, emotes can be sent at the start of races or as spectators.

Additionally, a Festival Queens League event is now active. Throughout the month of July, players can collect Gem Sparks on Festival tracks to unlock rewards. These tracks are designated by special icons.

New Additions

Added Festival Queens League.
All tracks included in the Queens League (MUTE CITY II/PORT TOWN I/RED CANYON I/WHITE LAND I/WHITE LAND II) will appear as festival tracks. During these events, Gem Sparks can be collected from festival tracks.

Added customization items only available during the period when the Festival Queens League event is in progress.
You can check the acquisition status by pressing the L button in the main menu.

The Festival Queens League event will run for a limited time only.

Regular Queen League tracks and Queen League Grand Prix cannot be played while the Festival Queens League event is active. (except in the private lobby and training modes). Additionally, limited-time challenges will not be available.

Added an event ranking tab to the weekly ranking based on collected Gem Sparks.
A player ranked 999th or higher at the end of the event can earn a special badge.

Added Star Rivals.
They will occasionally appear on Festival tracks during a Festival Queens League event. Star Rivals will appear in F-ZERO 99 and Festival Queens League modes. They will not appear in Private Lobby races.

The Star Rivals are the four characters Captain Falcon, Samurai Goroh, Dr. Stewart, and Pico from the SNES version of the game F-ZERO.
When you beat a Star Rival in a race where they have been chosen as a rival, you receive a special badge that can be used to customize Driver Cards.

Added emotes that can be sent to specific locations during a race.
A face icon will appear in the upper right corner of the screen when the emote can be sent. At this time, hold down the R button and press the A, B, X, or Y button to select the emote you want to send. Emotes can be sent from the driver card display screen before the race begins, during the camera introduction at the starting point, and while spectating a race. Emotes sent by other players spectating the race will appear in the lower left corner of the screen.

You can enable or disable the display of emoticons from the main menu options.

Changed the rules of Team Battle.
The previous two-team system has been replaced with a five-team system, and the number of players per team is now 10. Additionally, in Team Battles, all teammates share a Team Super Meter. When the Team Super Meter is full, all teammates can ride together on the Team Skyway. The Super Boost is activated when each teammate presses the boost button within the time limit. The number of players allowed to participate in Team Battle is 50.

Available team colors are blue, yellow, green, pink and white.
Grey Bumpers, Red Bumpers, and Gold Bumpers now also appear in Team Battle. Gold Bumpers that appear in Team Battle can now be KO'd.

Three weekend events have been added:

  • Lucky Weekend Lucky Ranks reset every four hours. You can earn Bonus Ticket Points and EXP by playing F-ZERO 99 or Pro Tracks during the event.
  • Mini Prize Machine-Shuffle Weekend At the start of the race, a machine type is randomly selected, and all players compete for the Mini Prize with that machine.
  • Team Battle Weekend Team Battles will be held frequently on weekends. You can earn bonus ticket points and EXP in Team Battles during the event.

Weekend events are scheduled to be held sequentially on the weekends following the end of the Festival Queens League period.

Added Boost Colors and Spin Effects to use for machine customization, as well as Backgrounds, Badges, and Borders to use for driver card customization.
These items can be unlocked when certain conditions are met. New Boost Colors and Spin Effects can be obtained primarily through limited-time challenges that are released after the Festival Queens League ends. New Backgrounds can be obtained primarily through Lucky Ranks. You can access your new customization items via the Workshop in the main menu.

Other adjustments and changes

  • Increased the skill value of a player with the S-S50 skill when defeating a Rival.
  • Added variation in the Bumper spawn pattern.
  • Due to a change in the Team Battle rules, the requirements for earning a Team Battle badge have been changed: “Finish in the top 3 teams of a Team Battle 20 times” (and 50 and 99 times thereafter).
  • The number of times you finished 1st in previous Team Battles will remain recorded, and after this update is applied, the number of times you finished 1st-3rd will be added.
  • The badge that can be obtained by a Double KO has been changed to a hidden badge.
  • Chance Ranks reset time has been changed to 5pm (PDT).
