Exploring the Steam Deck: Searching for Updates, Installing Beta Functions, and Testing Them Out

You can find out here how you can search for new updates in the Steamd Deck, install them and set which update channel you want to use.

Find & install Steam Deck updates

If there is an update for the Steam Deck, the device will usually show you this directly in the top bar Gear icon with an exclamation mark (see picture).

But you can also do it at any time manually initiate the search for updates. To start searching and installing new updates, do the following:

Press STEAM and select “Settings” off. Navigates to the menu on the left Point “System”.Now choose the one “Check for updates” button or – if one already exists – on “Carry out”to start the update.
Downloading and installing the update may take a few minutes.As soon as the update is ready, you can download it here Restart button Select to complete the update process.

After restarting, your Steam Deck should now be on the current system version. The current operating system version you can find it at “Settings” “System” under the point “Info”.

Set update channel

If you want to try out the latest Steam and/or SteamOS features, you need to change the system updates channel. But be careful: This way you will receive far more updates and you may also stumble upon problems as the functions are still in development.

This is how you change the update channel on the Steam Deck:

Press STEAM and select “Settings” off. Navigates to the menu on the left Point “System”.Under “Beta participation” you choose that Drop down menu to switch between the 3 following options to choose:

Stable (default): This means you only receive the tested, stable updates for your Steam Deck.Beta: Here you get the beta functions from Steam itself.Preview/Preview: Here you can get the beta versions and functions of Steam and SteamOS itself.

After selecting the desired update channel, you usually have to update the deck once and restart it. After that you will only receive the updates you want.
