Dragon's Dogma 2 Patch 7 technical check: Is it finally working properly?

Dragon's Dogma 2 is considered one of the most visually impressive games of the year; Capcom's open-world epic impresses with advanced lighting technology and detailed Ray-Traced Global Illumination (RTGI), among other things.

Despite these technical achievements, the game had significant visual and performance issues when it was released and even after the second patch, such as image reconstruction not working on Xbox Series consoles and frame rate issues in densely populated urban areas. Capcom recently released patch number seven, which promises improved frame rates and new visual options. Digital Foundry has taken a closer look at the game. watched.

Meanwhile, Dragon's Dogma 2 presents itself much better

On Xbox Series X, the visual settings are largely unchanged compared to the second patch. The previous reconstruction issues on Series X have therefore been largely resolved, although the image still appears less sharp than on PS5. A new option to switch between high and low settings offers additional customization options.

Performance has also been adjusted, but the game remains unstable in most scenarios, especially with ray tracing (RT) active. Although CPU-bound performance has been improved in NPC-rich areas like Vernworth, the game generally hovers between 30 and 60 fps without a clear framerate target. Even the 30 fps mode continues to exhibit issues with uneven frame pacing.

On PS5, Ambient Occlusion (AO) has been improved, minimizing the visual differences between RT and non-RT modes. Performance in CPU-limited areas has also improved. With 120Hz output and VRR enabled, PS5 can now deliver a more stable frame rate like Xbox Series consoles. Although Series X has a performance advantage in GPU-limited scenarios, PS5 outperforms it in CPU-limited areas like Vernworth.

The Xbox Series S shows similar visual and performance improvements as the other consoles, but still suffers from lower lighting quality and flickering. Overall, Dragon's Dogma 2 has been significantly improved by the patches since release, although some issues, such as the buggy 30fps mode and the lack of a true 60fps mode, remain unresolved, according to Digital Foundry. In a direct comparison, PS5 and Series X are now almost neck and neck, with the PS5 having a slight advantage due to image quality.
