Will Robert Downey Jr. return to the MCU?

Several insiders have commented on a possible return of Robert Downey Jr. to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The alleged post-credit scenes of Deadpool & Wolverine are also affected. At this point, we are not revealing what happens, but rather what we supposedly won't see.

Apparently it was planned that Robert Downey Jr. as villain Dr. Doom is celebrating his comeback in the MCU. In the comics, the antagonist briefly takes on the role of the new Iron Man in the Secret Wars storyline. Since Avengers 6 is also supposed to be called Secret Wars in the cinema, there would be a corresponding connection here.

Other rumors say that Disney (and very likely Ryan Reynolds) wanted Robert Downey Jr. to appear as Iron Man in one of the scenes during or after the credits of Deadpool & Wolverine. That also allegedly went wrong. Deadpool 3 is the only film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe this year and will be released in Germany on July 24, 2024.
