Data miners may have come across a very exciting discovery. It seems that Blizzard is laying the groundwork to bring one of Warcraft's most powerful and well-known weapons to Sanctuary.

As Wowhead reportsthey discovered a model for Frostmourne in the game data of the test server of Season 5 for Diablo 4. The sword is the legendary blade that Prince Arthas seized in Warcraft 3 in his search for a weapon against the Scourge. Unfortunately, the Lich King's unholy blade gradually turns the Paladin into a new undead knight himself.

Diablo 4 finally gets the hang of it

Diablo meets Warcraft

The information from Wowhead is a leak and no official announcement from FrostgramSo keep your euphoria in check for now, because at the end of the day it could also be a data relic.

What is striking, however, is that the model of Frostmourne was only discovered with the start of the test server for Season 5. This suggests that Blizzard only recently created the weapon and that it is not a leftover. For the same reason, Wowhead suspects that the weapon was only during Season 5 will even be available in the game.

It wouldn't be the first time that Diablo and Warcraft crossed swords. Some cosmetic items in the style of the Lich King were introduced at the end of 2023. A version of Frostmourne was also included at that time. A total of three cosmetic items were offered:

  • Invincible: The horse of the Lich King.
  • Headguard of the Lord: The Lich King's helmet as a saddle decoration.
  • Echo of Frostmourne: Frostmourne's broken blade hilt, also for the saddle.

The hope now is that this new and complete version of Frostmourne can actually be used as a weapon. It will most likely be a cosmetic skin for one-handed swords. That would mean that basically every class can use Frostmourne to fight demons, undead or worse. Accordingly, Frostmourne is only as powerful as the weapon it replaces.

It remains to be seen whether the discovery will prove true and Frostmourne will really be introduced as a cosmetic item in Season 5 – and above all, how much it will cost you. Season 5 is still a few weeks away. The new season is not scheduled to start until August 6th and is all about infernal hordes. If you want to play it now, you can test out the season on the PTR.
