Deep Cuts: Cinematic horror virtual reality game announced for PS VR2

PlayStation VR2 will continue to be supported with games. “Deep Cuts” is one such title. However, the PS5 headset is not at the forefront of the release plans.

It remains to be seen whether Sony will contribute further PR games. However, third-party providers will continue to support PlayStationVR2 firmly.

Publisher tinyBuild and developer Scythe Dev Team have announced “Deep Cuts,” a cinematic horror virtual reality rescue mission that will be released this fall – initially for Meta Quest.

Versions for PlayStation VR2 and SteamVR will follow next year. A trailer is available for viewing below these lines.

Hair-raising atmosphere and a rich narrative

Scythe and tinyBuild previously released “Happy's Humble's Burger Farm” and with the new project they want to create a horror experience that this time merges with classic cinema in a completely new way that is only possible in virtual reality.

In “Deep Cuts,” players will immerse themselves in “chaotic, physics-based action gameplay with highly interactive worlds,” the developers promise. Added to that is a “hair-raising atmosphere and a rich narrative.”

The initial PR is linked to the Meta Quest. Accordingly, the hardware is highlighted.

“With Deep Cuts, we've leveraged every inch of the Meta Quest hardware to create an unmatched experience that pushes the boundaries of what's possible in the physical virtual reality medium,” said Scythe Dev Team Director, Founder and Principal Technical Engineer Kaleb Alfadda in a press release.

Alfadda continued: “Our team has meticulously optimized every aspect to ensure smooth performance and rich, detailed environments that truly bring the game to life. We look forward to delivering players an experience that fully leverages the hardware's potential and sets new standards for standalone virtual reality.”

That's what Deep Cuts is about

In “Deep Cuts,” players visit various film sets. They experience the spooky “Forsaken Festival” of the 80s, fight against space creatures in the sci-fi thriller “Origin Drill” from the 70s, or take a trip to the Wild West in “Bastard Town.”

In each blockbuster world, interactive objects are waiting to be discovered. Players can shoot with a prop machine gun, uncover hidden secrets, solve puzzles and manipulate time.

What is the future of PlayStation VR2?

As soon as the date of “Deep Cuts” for PlayStation VR2 is announced, you will find out on PLAY3.DE. The future of the PS5 headset is on rather shaky ground, however. Recently, rumors have been circulating that Sony is further scaling back its own efforts. And the opening for the PC also sounds like the manufacturer is withdrawing support.
