However, this does not mean that support for the shooter will be discontinued completely. Instead, players will continue to receive updates and new content. As the developers at DICE announced, the studio is currently preparing to launch a new limited-time game mode.

The mode in question is called “Outbreak” and is based on a popular horror classic from Electronic Arts: “Dead Space”.

What is Outbreak all about?

“Outbreak” takes up various content from the “Dead Space” series and gives your squads the task of defending humanity against a dark threat. The limited-time mode goes its own way in terms of gameplay and enriches the world of “Battlefield 2042” with an extraction mode.

In “Outbreak” you team up with other players and try to achieve set goals while hordes of the undead hunt you and your team members. Once the tasks have been successfully completed, the next goal is to reach the extraction point and complete the mission.

Fans of the “Dead Space” series can look forward to the opportunity to unlock various cosmetic extras based on the “Dead Space” series in “Outbreak”. According to today's announcement, the “Outbreak” mode will be available from July 9 to July 16, 2024.

Several studios are working on the future of Battlefield

In early May, EA's CEO Andrew Wilson spoke about the future of the “Battlefield” series as part of the current business figures. According to Wilson, several studios are currently working on future “Battlefield” experiences. These include DICE and EA Motive, the studio behind the remake of “Dead Space.”

“This is the biggest Battlefield team in franchise history. I visited the teams a few weeks ago and I couldn't be more excited about what they showed and what we were able to play,” Wilson continued.

Apart from the fact that EA is relying on the live service concept for the future of “Battlefield”, no further details have been given so far.

“Battlefield 2042” is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.
