Axel Foley is back and Ghibli's heirs enchant Netflix

After a rather quiet streaming week, the portals are pumping a lot of new film and series gold into our living rooms this week. The battle for the film of the week is becoming an internal Netflix duel: While Eddie Murphy returns as Axel Foley after 30 years, Studio Ponoc is also celebrating a magical comeback. But first things first: With “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F”, Netflix has now released the fourth part of the legendary “Beverly Hills Cop” series. The last film in the series was released in 1994, and for a good decade there had been talk of a comeback. It was only a few years ago that Netflix took the plunge and saved the project, including the franchise license. Now the wait is finally over for all fans – and part 4 is more than just nostalgia.

This is also reflected in the in-house sequel planning: As Eddie Murphy recently confirmed, there are already Plans for a fifth “Beverly Hills Cop” film. Strong!

The second big highlight on Netflix this week is “The Imaginary” by Studio Ponoc. To understand: Ponoc is a spin-off of Studio Ghibli and recently brought us the strong “Mary and the Witch's Flower”. The fact that Netflix was able to get the exclusive rights to the second feature film from the still young anime studio is a real exclamation mark. “The Imaginary” was directed by “Spirited Away” artist Yoshiyuki Momose and adapts the novel of the same name by AF Harold as a modern anime fairy tale with a unique visual. Speaking of Studio Ghibli: Even though there are always voices that say Hayao Miyazaki's career is over, the anime grandmaster is currently working on a new project !

And what else? On Prime Video, Emma Roberts serves us her disguised “Wild Child” sequel “Space Cadet”, in which she turns the US Starfleet inside out with her pink, playful charm. Disney+, meanwhile, wants to distract from the once again devastating sixth episode of “Star Wars: The Acolyte” and is now bringing us Season 20 (!) of “Grey's Anatomy” on a weekly basis. Season 2 of the underrated series “Not Quite Dead Yet” with Gina Rodriguez also has the potential to make people forget the “Star Wars” flop.

Streaming week ticked off, it's still worth a quick look at the cinema: This week there are two new semi-insider tips! While Yorgos Lanthimos ignites his new weird wonder “Kinds of Kindness” with Emma Stone, Willem Dafoe and Jesse Plemons, Ti West brings the slicing Finale of his X-trilogy “MaXXXine” moves the story from the free-spirited 70s of “X” and the twisted 20s of “Pearl” to the pulsating 80s. And “MaXXXine” also lives again from an outstanding Mia Goth!
