Anticipate 150 remakes of Assassin’s Creed in the near future

The CEO of Ubisoft announced that the studio would continue to remake Assassin's Creed video games. The saga will return to a more regular rhythm of releases.

A few years ago, Ubisoft was releasing one new Assassin's Creed game per year. Between 2009 (Assassin's Creed 2) and 2015 (Assassin's Creed Syndicate), it was the accumulation. The quality ended up suffering seriously. The French firm therefore changed its approach for a more reasonable strategy, with more time left to the developers and a redesign of the experience. Between 2017 (Assassin's Creed Origins) and 2023 (Assassin's Creed Mirage), there will have been “only” four opuses.

From now on, Ubisoft intends to bring its flagship saga back to fruition, by returning to a more regular rhythm of releases. This was made known by Yves Guillemot, the CEO, on the occasion ofan interview published on June 27, 2024 on the official Ubisoft website. To do this, the publisher has found an unstoppable lever: insert remakes between new releases. “ The goal is to have Assassin's Creed games that come out more often, but don't offer the same experience every year ” he confides.

Which Assassin's Creed games deserve a remake?

Yves Guillemot specifies: “ Players may be excited about some remakes, which will allow us to revisit some games we created in the past and modernize them; there are universes from our old Assassin's Creed that are still incredibly rich. » At the same time, Ubisoft intends to look at the variety of experiences, which we already know since the officialization of the Codename Red projects (now Assassin's Creed Shadows and expected for November 15, 2024) and Codename Hexe (“ which will be a totally different game »).

All these projects will undoubtedly aim to feed Assassin's Creed Infinitythe long-announced super-hub whose outlines are still barely being sketched out. In any case, fans will indeed be happy at the idea of returning to certain eras in better conditions, if the work of bringing it up to date is up to par.

Which episodes deserve a remake? We can name at least three :

  • The Ezio Auditore trilogy: Ubisoft could bring together Assassin's Creed 2, Brotherhood And Revelations in one package. The second opus is one of the most appreciated of the saga. It is also the one that laid the solid foundations of the first life of the Assassin's Creed games, with an incredible reproduction of places (Florence, Venice, the Vatican, etc.) and an intelligent appropriation of History.
  • The French Revolution: it is certainly a bit chauvinistic to consider Assassin's Creed Unitybut let's not forget that this opus has a bad reputation (due to its technical debt at its launch) and has precipitated the fall of its own (Syndicate hammered the last nail). A remake of Unity would offer Ubisoft revenge, while the power of current (or future) consoles would allow it to satisfy its ambitions (Paris filled with angry residents).
  • Pirates: we quote Black Flag for the simple reason that there is a rumor about him, shared by Kotaku in June 2023. Here again, we are talking about an adventure applauded by fans, in particular thanks to its charismatic hero (Edward Kenway) and the diversity of the gameplay (even if you have to like naval combat).
