After the action, sci-fi for Will Smith

After his role in the last Bad Boys, actor Will Smith will return to the world of science fiction with the film Resistor. A thriller, based on the 2014 novel “Influx” by Daniel Suarez, which will be produced by Sony Pictures. If the pitch is not yet known, we nevertheless already know what the book is about: We follow the story of a physicist, Jon Grady, who with his team manages to develop a device capable of reflecting gravity. Their research will revolutionize the field of physics, but its laboratory is locked by a shadowy organization whose mission is to prevent social upheavals caused by sudden technological advances.

Particle physicist Jon Grady is over the moon when his team achieves a major breakthrough: a device capable of reflecting gravity. Their research will revolutionize the field of physics. But just as Grady triumphs, his laboratory is locked down by a shadowy organization whose mission is to prevent social upheaval caused by sudden technological advances – advances they use to maintain total control. They live in the future we were promised. Grady now finds himself in a nightmarish high-tech prison built to hold other rebels… – Influx Summary

The film was conceived over several years by Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, Steve Tisch and Tony Shaw of Escape Artists. Zak Olkewicz, author of Bullet Train, wrote the first version of the film, but it was ultimately Eric Singer (Top Gun: Maverick, American Hustle) who wrote the final version. A director is now being sought to bring the project to life.

Bad Boys star

For now, Smith is still starring in Bad Boys Ride or Die which is a real box office success, enough to counterbalance the failure of his last film Emancipation. The actor seems to be making a comeback, the film having already grossed $56 million after one week of release. A victory for the actor who had been shunned by the public and part of the Hollywood industry following the slap incident at the Oscars and which perhaps allows him to look to the future with optimism. The film managed to dethrone Garfield to take first place at the family film box office. Third place is occupied by Blue & Company from Paramount, starring Cailey Fleming (The Walking Dead) alongside Ryan Reynolds.
