Until September 8, Orange and Sosh subscribers, if they have a 5G compatible phone, can upgrade to the new generation of network without changing their offer. Orange's desire to promote its new network, but also to desaturate 4G antennas (5G supports more connections). We do not yet know what Orange will offer after September 8, since SFR and Bouygues have decided to generalize 5G for free in recent weeks.
Initially, Orange suggested that the switch to 5G would happen automatically. On June 28, the operator communicated a registration form which allows you to add the “5G Discovery” option to your account manually.
What is the procedure to activate free 5G at Orange?
In reality, this link is not new. Orange has been highlighting it in its customer area applications for several days, with the aim of facilitating the transition to 5G.
By going on the dedicated page and by connecting with your Orange ID, you can add the “5G Discovery” option to your package. It will be on hold until activated.

When will the 5G Discovery option be activated?
To avoid disrupting its antennas (12 million people are expected to make the switch), Orange is gradually rolling out 5G to its 4G customers. Some are already entitled to it, others are waiting. The final changeover will take place on July 18, although most customers should be served before then.
When a 5G SMS arrives, you will have to restart your phone to benefit from it.
Registration for the discovery offer is possible until July 18, with the risk of not being able to benefit from it after. Note that it is possible, if you hate 5G for your own reasons, to cancel the option in your customer area or to block 5G on your phone.
