We regularly report on the latest e-bike news. A few days ago, for example, Cowboy announced its cooperation with Upway in the form of a trade-in deal – you can read how it works here.

Today, DJI is presenting its new e-bike motor called Avinox Drive System and, fittingly, is also announcing its own e-bike brand called Amflow, which specializes in high-quality eMBTs – i.e. e-mountain bikes.

Everything about DJI's e-bike motor in brief

In a press release, DJI and Amflow – a brand founded jointly with DJI – following technical specs for the new Motor and eMBT:

  • Torque: 105 Nm
  • Engine weight: 2.56 kg
  • Batteries with 600 Wh and 800 Wh each
  • This corresponds to a range of approximately 117 km and 157 km respectively
  • GaN fast charging technology included

Originally known for drone drive systems, DJI is now venturing into the e-bike market. With Avinox, the manufacturer wants to shake up the mountain e-bike market. (Source: DJI)

DJI also advertises another strength of its motor. It has several modes for assisted driving:

  • Car: smart adaptation to the respective terrain
  • Eco: A mode for long-distance journeys
  • Trail: Acceleration and powerful support
  • Turbo: For maximum acceleration and support
  • Boost: 3-second power increase to 120 NM and 1,000 W power

This motor can be found, among other things, in the e-bike called Amflow PL.

Further features of the Amflow eMBT with DJI Avinox motor

In their respective press releases, DJI and Amflow talk about various features that are supposed to characterize the e-bike. We have put together an overview for you:

  • Frame weight: 2.27 kg (carbon)
  • Rear wheel size: 27.5 to 29-inch compatible
  • Total weight of the eMBT: 19.2kg

GaN fast charging technology: According to DJI, the 800 Wh battery can be charged to 75 percent within 1.5 hours thanks to the GaN fast charger. According to Amflow, the battery should retain at least 80 percent of its capacity even after 500 complete charge/discharge cycles.

Smart assistance systems and modes: As mentioned at the beginning, the DJI Avinox Drive System has a Auto mode which adapts the engine support to the road conditions in real time.

This allows you to tackle a variety of terrain and gradient types without having to change modes. There are also other features to help you:

  • Boost mode for short-term performance increase to 120 Nm torque and 1000 W support for extreme gradients
  • Walk mode: Pushing aid for easy inclines
  • AutoHold represents a rollback lock
  • Start Assist provides additional torque when starting off and shifting when stationary.

Smart touchscreen display in the frame: You can either connect to the e-bike via your smartphone or adjust your settings via the integrated touchscreen in the bike frame:

  • 2-inch OLED color display
  • Screen brightness: 800 cd/m²
  • 326ppi

You can see data from various sensors on the bike, such as your cadence when pedaling, how much power you use and the calculated remaining range of the battery.

Control at the touch of a button: In addition to the control display, you can also log in and adjust driving modes via the Avinox app. There is also an anti-theft mode that reports suspicious movements of the eMBT. There is also remote tracking that allows you to check the real-time location of the bike at any time.

We still have to test how well these features will perform in everyday life. You can find e-bike models that we have already tested here:

Price and availability

Neither Amflow nor DJI have mentioned a possible price. However, DJI has labeled its product as premium – we therefore suspect that it is an e-bike in the high-price segment. According to Amflow, the fourth quarter of 2024 is a possible sales date for the first Amflow products.
