A dinosaur claw from Capcom for the 25th anniversary

25 years ago today, the “Dino Crisis” franchise was born. Capcom drew attention to this with a short tweet.

The iconic “Dino Crisis” series is 25 years old today! Part one was released in Japan on July 1, 1999 for the first PlayStation. The Americans got it in September, and the Europeans were finally served in October. A year later, the dinosaur horror game conquered Sega's Dreamcast and the PC.

The first offshoot was a complete success: A total of 2.4 million units were sold. The successor sold 1.2 million units, only half as many.

A third part was finally released – in 2003, exclusively for the Xbox. Sales figures for this are not available. The series has been on ice since then. And so far, Capcom has not given the impression that it wants to revive the popular dinosaur series.

At least the Japanese publisher has not forgotten the brand. Capcom drew attention to the 25th anniversary today with this picture. All that can be seen is the bloody dino claw from the Japanese and European PS1 cover:

Capcom is still interested in dinosaur games in general. Last year, the company launched the live service shooter “Exoprimal”. However, both the press and user ratings a mixed picture.

The people in charge also conducted a survey in February to find out how much interest there was in comebacks of old series. Among other things, participants were able to vote for “Dino Crisis”.

Incidentally, the developer studio Hashbane Interactive announced a similar game called “InstinctHowever, the publication is not scheduled to take place until the end of 2025.



You will find out what Capcom has in store tonight. At exactly 00:00 the latest showcase in which the following three games will be presented:

  • Resident Evil 7 (iOS version)
  • Dead Rising Deluxe (Recently announced remaster)
  • Kunitsu-Gami Path of the Goddess (Action strategy game coming out on July 19th)

Capcom made it clear that there are no surprises to be expected. You will only see these three games.
