Bleach is a Japanese manga written and illustrated by Tite Kubo. The series follows the adventures of Ichigo Kurosaki, a teenager who accidentally acquires the powers of a Shinigami (God of Death) from Rukia Kuchiki. These powers allow him to protect the living from evil spirits and help lost souls find peace.

Arc 1: Substitute Shinigami Arc

Ichigo Kurosaki, a high school student capable of seeing ghosts, meets Rukia Kuchiki, a Shinigami. During a battle with a Hollow (malicious spirit), Rukia is seriously injured and transfers her powers to Ichigo so that he can protect his family. Ichigo then becomes a substitute Shinigami, fighting Hollows and guiding souls to Soul Society, the spirit world.

Arc 2: Soul Society Arc

Rukia is arrested and sentenced to death for transferring her powers to a human. Ichigo and his friends—Orihime Inoue, Uryū Ishida, and Yasutora “Chad” Sado—infiltrate Soul Society to save her. After much fighting, Ichigo manages to save Rukia. It is revealed that Captain Sōsuke Aizen, considered a traitor, is manipulating events to obtain the Hōgyoku, a powerful artifact. Aizen defected from Soul Society along with two other captains, Gin Ichimaru and Kaname Tōsen.

Arc 3: Arc of the Bounts (anime only)

The Bounts, immortal beings who consume human souls to survive, are introduced. Ichigo and his friends fight and ultimately defeat them. This arc is exclusive to the anime and does not appear in the manga.

Arc 4: Arc of the Arrancars

Aizen uses Hōgyoku to create Arrancars, Hollows with Shinigami powers. Ichigo and his friends face the Arrancars sent by Aizen. Orihime is kidnapped by Aizen, forcing Ichigo and his friends to invade Hueco Mundo, the world of Hollows, to save her. They fight the Espada, the most powerful of the Arrancars. Ichigo defeats Ulquiorra, one of the strongest Espada, and saves Orihime.

Arc 5: Karakura Battle Arc

Aizen launches an attack on Karakura Town to create the King's Key, an artifact that will allow him to kill the Soul King. The Soul Society captains fight the Espada and Arrancar. Ichigo confronts Aizen and uses an ultimate technique, Mugetsu, to defeat him, temporarily losing his Shinigami powers.

Arc 6: Fullbring Arc

Ichigo, having lost his Shinigami powers, meets the Fullbringers, humans with special powers. They help him regain his powers, but he discovers that their leader, Kūgo Ginjō, is a former replacement Shinigami who has gone rogue. Ichigo regains his powers with the help of his Shinigami friends and defeats Ginjō.

Arc 7: Thousand-Year Blood War Arc

The Vandenreich, an army of Quincys led by Yhwach, attacks Soul Society. The Quincys, once exterminated by the Shinigami, return for revenge. Ichigo discovers that he is half Quincy, inherited from his mother. Yhwach kills the Soul King, threatening to destroy all worlds. Ichigo and his allies confront Yhwach and his Sternritters, the Vandenreich's most powerful soldiers. In a final fight, Ichigo uses his combined Shinigami and Quincy powers to defeat Yhwach.

Epilogue

Years later, Ichigo is married to Orihime and they have a son named Kazui. Rukia became a captain and is married to Renji Abarai, with whom she has a daughter named Ichika. Peace is restored in the worlds of the living and the spirits.
